How to install IIS on WinXP SP2? |
 |
 |

I can't install IIS on my Windows XP SP2 because the setup asks for some
files, which are not part of the SP2 and also not part of the original XP
installation CD. Where can I find this files? You can test it yourself by
unsinstalling IIS and reinstall IIS.

I can't test myself because I don't have an SP2 system with IIS,
sorry. And since I can't perform a test, and would be unwilling to
use my time and resources to test a setup unique to you to solve a
problem for you with no compensation, I can't see what the error would
be.
On the other hand, you happen to have the exact setup you are having
trouble with, and have experienced the exact errors you need solutions
to. Was it really too much trouble to post the errors you received,
or provide any more hints to your problems, that you expected it to be
easier for someone else to try to duplicate the problem just so your
system can work?

OK here is a list of files he wants to install, that are not part of the SP2
nor the original XP installation:
- adsutil.vbs
- smtpadm.dll
- seo.dll
- rwnh.dll
- smtpapi.dll
- smtpsnap.dll
- smtpsnap.hlp
- smtpsnap.cnt

If you installed the administration scripts and SMTP, these are part
of the original install. You should even find them on your system and
be able to simply point the installer back at them. Note that you may
need the SP1 CD if you installed that as well.

You are wrong. Believe me. This files can't be found on the original =
WinXP CD and it can't be found in the SP2 network install. Pointing the =
installer to the I386 directory of both sources can't find this files.

Did you search on your system? Not on the CD, your hard drive. And
is this a first time install or did you have IIS installed before?

Great to hear. It's not an uncommon problem, hopefully someone will
Google for an answer and find this, so they don't go thropugh your
frustrations. Thanks for telling us what the final solution was.

I had exactly the same problem with a brand new HP machine, that only
had XPPro & SP2 installed.
To get IIS installed, I used my MSDN XP Pro & SP2 disks, but the files
that are supposed to be on the SP2 disks are not there - at least, they
are not visible.
You need to run the XPSP2.EXE application thus: XPSP2 /?. This will
extract all the files to a temporary folder on your C drive and then
popup a help window with an OK button. When you click OK the temporary
directory will be deleted. So before you do this, install IIS, using
your XP CD and the files in the temporary directory.
As previously mentioned, some files are actually in I386\IP and not I386
as prompted. You will be prompted for the 'CD' a couple of times so
make sure you pick the real CD or SP temporary directory correctly.
Cheers

Thanks Peter, your suggestion was the fix. I had the same problem as Rolf,
with the same missing files. The thing is, I didn't have a Windows XP SP2 C
D, just a regular Windows XP Pro CD. Running XPSP2.EXE /? worked like a cha
rm to get those extra missing files.
